I welcome you all. By reading all pages, you will learn more about RVCP organization.Thank you for being interested by Rwanda Village Concept Project. ''Together we can make a difference''.

Rwanda Village Concept Project (RVCP) is non-governmental, nonpolitical, voluntary organization. It is linked to other Village Concept Projects worldwide through the International Students’ Association of Village Concept Projects.

The overall goal of RVCP is to provide sustainable improvement in the living conditions of underprivileged communities and to develop the skills and knowledge of participating students. RVCP was initiated in 2000 by a partnership between medical students of the National University of Rwanda, the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) and the community of Huye District.

VCPs are series of developmental projects initiated by students worldwide which follow the guidelines of the village concept project document, established in 1998 by IFMSA  and WHO in Geneva.

VCPs are multisectorial and multidiscinary.

The general objectives of RVCP and its programs mentioned below are
:

  1. -   improving the situation of the villages’ general sanitation
  2. -   reduction of the prevalence of malaria
  3. -   educating the community on prevention of HIV/AIDS, STIs and unwanted pregnancies
  4. -   improve the knowledge of the target community on  nutrition and family planning (contraceptive methods)
  5. -   promote a human rights-based development approach
  6. -   empowering women to effectively manage  natural resources of their environment
  7. -   establishing income generating activities
  8. -   educating national and international students on development aid projects
  9. -   interdisciplinary and primary health care
Those objectives are met through five programs and two initiatives:

  2.       Malaria Prevention
  3.       Hygiene and Water Sanitation
  4.       Women/Girls Empowerment (Pyramid)
  5.       Income Generation
INITATIVES

  1.    SOVU/RUKIRA Health Center
  2.    LLCCM (Let the Little Children Come to Me) Orphan center
The participation of the local community is essential in identifying, planning and implementing the projects within each program. RVCP works intensively with local leaders, associations and other local institutions to identify all relevant stakeholders, with particular efforts being made to identify vulnerable members of society. These stakeholders are involved at all stages of the development process; from initial planning through to implementation and evaluation. Through the programs they become empowered, gaining greater self-reliance and more active responsibilities, whilst additionally improving their own health and living conditions.
